The Secret of Happiness

THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS

I stumbled upon
the secret of happiness

a brief article
on the Internet

a lottery win
brings material wealth

but life is much more
than what you can get

cherish friends
and family

you’ll live
a few years longer

don’t forget
to show affection

it actually
makes you stronger

show kindness
like the Dalai Lama

he really knows
how to laugh

a good diet
and some exercise

followed by
a fragrant bath

every day, write
at least three things

that went well,
to be grateful for

spend hours
in the natural world

beyond your
locked front door

slow down, and
learn to relax

don’t burn out
by forty-three

forgive yourself
and that neighbour

and be happy
as just me

(The neighbour bit might be a challenge !!!)

I think we can let you off the neighbour bit!

I agree that those are the things that make us happy. I couldn't be happier really.

I will try to write three things before bed that were particularly good about my day. I think then if I put them by my bed that might work to stop the panic I always feel on waking every day. It has no basis and fades quickly but this might help banish even quicker.

Great post, love the photo! I actually made my youngest daughter tell me two things every day that were opsitive about being in her classroom (we got her shifted and she wasn't happy) and eventually she had her focus shifted to a more positive view! It works!

Lovely poem.

I used to find happiness was always just ahead of me, like a child’s shadow, that moves when he tries to stand on it.

Now I’m old enough to have given up the chase, and prefer its elder brother, contentment.

But sometimes it creeps up and taps me on the shoulder.
