West Yorkshire

We recently left behind the lonely Yorkshire Wolds for an excursion to the real prosperity and vibrancy of Leeds city centre; then on to the disturbingly declining Bradford - the city with a hole in the middle. At least you can get a splendidly fragrant curry there, while looking out of the window to where a policewoman was murdered.

It's possible to do remarkable things, like go shopping (the Primark scrum) and use public transport - such delights are not available in the wilds of rural North Yorkshire, where an escaped sheep will make the front page of the weekly local rag.

LEEDS LIMERICK

There was a tall woman from Leeds
who flaunted her own special needs
- a different chap every night
and the scar of a passionate bite,
under streetlamps shining like beads
